Healing the Thyroid with Ayurveda | Dr. Marianne Teitelbaum {Podcast #040}

Thyroid Disease is one of the most common health problems that we face.

The thyroid gland is the only gland whose hormones affect every cell in the body.
In reverse, anything in the body that is not in balance, will affect the thyroid.

There are epidemics of hypothyroidism (low/under-active thyroid). Especially western countries.
15 million people in US alone have hypothyroidism and don’t even know it!
Hashimotos is currently the #1 Auto-Immune disorder.

Rather than giving medications which makes the thyroid gland lazy, we want to address the root causes of the problem.

About Marianne Teitelbaum

Dr. Marianne Teitelbaum has been in private practice for over 30 years.

She has studied with several Ayurvedic doctors, including Stuart Rothenberg, M.D., and Vaidya Rama Kant Mishra.

The recipient of the Prana Ayushudi Award in 2013, she lectures and writes extensively about Ayurvedic treatments for all diseases.

She has been using in-depth principles of Ayurveda in her practice with outstanding results with all health problems.

In this Episode we Discuss:

Marianne’s Guru: Vaidya Rama Kant Mishra

Most of the Shakhadwipi Brahmins who settled in India still practice Ayurveda today. Just as Acharya P.V. Sharma, a famous Ayurvedic scholar, is of Shakhadwipi descent, Vaidya R K. Mishra’s ancestors issued from these migrant Shakhadwipi families.

Sastras (Ancient texts) left the texts open for Vaidyas to later add to in the future.

Overmedication of modern westerns causing lots of problems.

The trend of Americans rejecting herbs when taken orally due to a debilitated liver.

  • Similarly, modern Americans were becoming victims of Panchakarma as they couldn’t handle the detox methods.
  • Prepare the channels before detox.
  • Ensure agni is proper.

“Natural” synthetic supplements and “Nutraceuticals”

  • Isolated active ingredients synthetically made in a lab at a much higher dose - this comes riddled with side effects for the liver and kidneys.
  • e.g. Vitamin supplements, zinc supplements, curcumin extracts, herbal extracts etc.
  • These are not bad, but not ideal to take long term.

Bhasmas (Ash of minerals and metals)

Powerful nano-particle medicine that can penetrate well. They can go to certain places that regular herbs cannot.

The Epidemic of HypoThyroid Disease

(Low/Sluggish or Under-active Thyroid)

Hashimotos: The #1 Auto-Immune Disease

Thyroid Medication

  • How taking thyroid medication makes your thyroid gland lazy. It is not addressing the root cause of the problem.
  • How to get off the medication gradually as their thyroid comes back to life and proper function.

The thyroid gland is the only gland whose hormones affect every cell in the body.

In reverse, anything in the body that is off, will affect the thyroid.

The effect of mercury on the thyroid

Mercury goes immediately to the thyroid gland instead of the iodine.

The effect of fluoride on the thyroid

  • Fluoride in tap water - Fluoride an endocrine disruptor in the broad sense of altering normal endocrine function." This altered function can involve your thyroid, parathyroid, and pineal glands, as well as your adrenals, pancreas, and pituitary.

Fluoride has the ability to:

  • Mimic thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH)
  • Damage the cells of your thyroid gland
  • Disrupt conversion from the inactive form of the thyroid hormone (T4) to the active form (T3)

Chlorine is also in the same family as iodine - and can displace iodine in your thyroid gland  (iodine is used to create T4 and convert T4 to T3.

The effect of the contraceptive pill on the thyroid

  • Low prana, non-intelligent hormones mimicking chemicals.
  • Causing lost of breast cancer, not allowing thyroid to work + many other issues.

Coffees effect on the thyroid gland.

Ionised salts effect on the thyroid gland.

Instead of synthetic iodine, eat kelp or seafood.

Are women more effected with hypothyroidism than men?

  • They may have more stress, and fluctuating hormones.
  • Maybe because they attend to their health more?

Why blood tests may not detect thyroid imbalance but rather report “normal”

  • Pulse diagnosis detects earlier on in the disease process. Ayurveda has Six Stages of Disease.
  • The thyroid panels that doctors are performing are not comprehensive enough.

The effect of Soy on the thyroid gland

Especially unfermented soy is not good for overall health.

The Health Implications of Veganism

  • There’s something missing.
  • You may feel wonderful a couple years… but it has ill implications for health.
  • Our whole body is animal protein.

Over Heated Liver

Constant heating can lead to autoimmune conditions.

The Seven Tissues (Dhatus) and Ojas

Learn more about Ojas.

Ethical Dairy

It may very well be available near you!

Try your local Hare Krsna farm.

Marianne has sources of ethical dairy in USA in her book.

The effect of light on the thyroid gland

The importance of Vitamin D

The Immune System and Auto-Immune Disorders

  • The three components of the immune system.
  • Auto-immune is loss of intelligence.

The best yoghurt culture

  • The reductionist approach of probiotics.
  • The best way to consume yoghurt.

Guduchi (Tinospora cordifolia)

  • A very enlightened plant.
  • Very easy to grow. Get a cutting of the stem and grow it.
  • Prevents the cytokine storm - fantastic for auto-immune.
  • One of the amrita (immortal) herbs.
  • “The great protector.”

HyperThyrodism

Premature cleansing

The Role Of The Gall Bladder

  • An overlooks organ.
  • Weak thyroid = the gall bladder doesn’t empty properly.
  • So the cholesterol becomes imbalanced.

In this Episode we Discuss:

The greeting that is “Jai Guru Deva”

How John transitioned from a pure celibate monk to a highly sexual beings, the worlds most successful relationship author and teacher on sex.

Channelling sexual energy up into the higher energy centres of the body.

Love making as a spiritual practice

  • Healthy skepticism - required for the modern healthcare system.
  • We are loosing our trust in doctors and public medicine.
  • Trust is essential. It brings in the ability for the patient to let go. Surrender.
  • Ayurveda is the opposite.
  • The incredible public trust is being threatened - patients tell doctors things they wouldn’t tell their spouse, within seconds of meeting them!
  • Patients are hungry for knowledge.

Having sex with a stranger vs. having sex with someone you love.

  1. Sex with a Stranger/Impersonal sex - Feeling love when having sex with strangers is fake love and not sustainable, one keeps searching. It is an addiction. You “love” something that doesn’t really nourish you. Masturbation is one of them. Off-the-chart dopamine levels.
  2. Sex with someone you love has a more balancing and dynamic chemical cocktail of hormones.

Used to be the "7 year itch." Then it was the 3 year itch. And now sometimes it’s the one night stand itch.

Expressing the Energy You Cultivate

Putting your energy out in the world and then it reciprocates back in. Cycling the love and cycling the energy. This benefits others in the world and in relationships.

Getting so high also requires you to bring the energy down.

Gurus teaching celibacy but having sex.

Gurus getting vilified for having sex.

There’s nothing wrong with sex! But society condemns sex. Plus the gurus are teaching celibacy!

Penetrating into another person through listening

The dance of connecting and separating for alone time in a relationship.

Leisha Vidya - Faint remains of ignorance.

How to Have the Best Sex with the Same Person

This is the higher teaching.

Stimulating a woman to reach high oestrogen levels are a necessity for the woman’s body.

Rising together in unity in a Monogamous relationship.

How polyamories cannot sustain that passion with one person, due to the absence of skills to sustain polarity.

The importance of polarity to have a relationship of supreme love.

Burn outs in marriage due to loss of sex drive.

When kings had multiple wives

Meditation as a way to find what your mission is here on earth.

Semen Retention - To Open the Heart (but caution ⚠️ )

  • This is a highly advanced practice.
  • Suppressing the natural urges as an influential cause of disease.
  • John used to get prostate infections when practicing semen retention in the 80s. Any chronic inflection can later turn to cancer or swelling of the prostate gland.

John's (brief) approach to semen retention

  • Exercise certain muscle groups
  • Practice restraint - stop before the urge comes and connect with feeling of love and connection.
  • The objective is to ramp up the sexual energy till your heart opens up and you feel more love. When that love comes, let it relax and feel the love.
  • The role of woman - be in harmony with the man’s energy. Letting go of the attachment to orgasm.
  • To experience orgasmic energy happening to you, within other aspects of life, rather than you grabbing onto it and controlling it.

The Challenge of Women Masturbating

De-sensitising the clitoris and creating a release which causes an addiction to it which creates a “fantasy oestrogen.” Where connecting with a man creates more authentic oestrogen.

Gender Fluidity

  • Honouring our gender that our human body was blessed with (for those that were born with a definitive gender).
  • With the rise of consciousness and people becoming more spiritual aware, they are able to access both their feminine and masculine.
  • Gender confusion as a potential cause for divorce.
  • The trend of todays culture of women going more towards their masculine and men going more towards their feminine and what that means.

How men should talk about and express their emotions and feelings

Recommendations for those searching for their soul mate

The Price We Pay: What Broke Healthcare & How to Fix It | Dr. Marty Makary {Podcast #038}

We need health care literacy to navigate in today’s society.

It is important for individuals to get an insight into the health care system to understand, at least the general components of it, to receive safe and appropriate medical treatment.

Dr. Marty Makary, one of the nation's leading health care experts, shows how much of health care spending goes to things that have nothing to do with health and what you can do about it.

Dr. Makary challenges the medical establishment to remember medicine's noble heritage of caring for people when they are vulnerable.

Drawing from on-the-ground stories, his research, and his own experience, we explore price-gouging, middlemen, and a series of elusive money games in need of a serious shake-up.

Dr. Makary's work, including his book The Price We Pay, offers a roadmap for everyday civilians and business leader to get a better deal on their health care, and profiles the disruptors who are innovating medical care.

The movement to restore medicine to its mission is alive and well - a mission that can rebuild the public trust and save countries from the crushing cost of health care.

About Dr. Marty Makary

Dr. Makary is a New York Times bestselling author, Johns Hopkins surgeon and Professor of Health Policy.

His book The Price We Pay takes on the high cost of health care and reveals how individuals and businesses can get a better deal on their health care.

Described by Steve Forbes as “a must-read for every American” and a “deep dive into the real issues driving up the cost of health care” by Dr. Don Berwick, The Price We Pay is the “The Big Short” of American Medicine.

Makary is a frequent medical guest on NBC and FOX News and a leading voice for physicians, writing for the Wall Street Journal and USA today

Dr. Makary is a gastrointestinal surgeon and serves jointly as on the faculty of the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health.

He is an advocate for the re-design of medical care and studies innovations that improve health, reduce waste, and address the root causes of illness.

He currently serves as executive director of Improving Wisely, a national physician collaboration to reduce unnecessary medical care and is the founder of Restoring Medicine, an advocacy effort to help people who can’t afford their medical bills.

Dr. Makary has been elected to the National Academy of Medicine and named one of America’s 20 most influential people in health care by Health Leaders magazine.

In this Episode we Discuss:

The increase in medical complexities and sophistication and the increase of hyper-specialisations and sub-specialisations.

The Crisis of Medical Appropriateness

The prestigious John Hopkins Hospital conducted a study investigating what percentage of medical care is unnecessary.

21% was the average!

They asked a random group of physicians who broke it down in medications, diagnostic tests, surgeries and procedures.

When you have people in the industry saying that one fifth of all the services are unnecessary, that is a crisis!

The opioid crisis is one manifestation of the crisis of appropriateness.

10 years ago physicians in the US prescribed 2.4 billion prescriptions.
Last year (2018) it hit 5 billion.
Did disease double in the last 10 years? No, we have a crisis of appropriateness and inappropriate care.

Prescriptions opioids, which is one form of the medical error of over prescribing, was the number one cause of death in the United States in people under age 50.

We have the most medicalised generation in human history. At the same time we have the most sick

The most obese, the most hospitalised, the most medicated, the most procedurelised, the most diagnosed, the most disabled generation in the history of the world.

Revolutionising Medicine through the medical education system.

The problem with medical school are the exams.

Teaching regurgitation.

Medical error, if it were a disease, would rank as the third leading cause of disease in the United States

This study was published by Marty Makary and Michael Daniel from John Hopkins University.

Anti-microbial resistance is a public health crisis

This is a manufactured health care crisis. From over prescribing, huge antibiotics in our food chain, in the air (glyphosate) and of course anti-biotics.

Stopping Covid-19 corona virus in its tracks.

Why “Stay At Home” is a ridiculous recommendation for corona virus Covid-19.

Covid-19 may just be the fifth seasonal corona virus (in addition two the other 4 corona viruses.

How has COVID-19 been as is going to be a catalyst for positive changes to this broken healthcare system.

The medical system taking advantage of the elderly

  • Part of it is the loss of the family unit.
  • A loved one joining a senior and helping to become a partner in medical care.
  • Connecting patients with loved ones is a key too much better outcomes.

Healthy Skepticism & Trust

  • Healthy skepticism - required for the modern healthcare system.
  • We are loosing our trust in doctors and public medicine.
  • Trust is essential. It brings in the ability for the patient to let go. Surrender.
  • Ayurveda is the opposite.
  • The incredible public trust is being threatened - patients tell doctors things they wouldn’t tell their spouse, within seconds of meeting them!
  • Patients are hungry for knowledge.

The true heritage and purpose of hospitals and doctors

Price Gouging Medicinal Services

Quarter million dollars to half a million dollars - for an air ambulance.

Air ambulances do save lives, but when they break their leg on a ski mountain with a quarter million dollar bill.

Keep in mind Uber and Lift and ground transportation can be sufficient if it is not emergency.
Plus! they will be at your home quicker than an ambulance.

There was one accident scene where one victim was there, and 7 air helicopters showed up on the scene to get the business.

Where do you think all this money is going that we pay for in health insurance premiums? It is essentially coming from you and all those that pay health insurance.

Price fluidity is proof of how price gouging is occurring. - Negotiating.

How can anyone accept a service without knowing the price first?

Airlines could argue they can't give us a price [in advance] because they don't know if there's going to be a delay or a cancellation, or you might consume a beverage. But airlines have built in the predicted risk into their prices.

Suing Patients

For unpaid bills. Predatory billing. Not happening in Australia.

Garnishing their pay checks.

Bullying on a scale that is unimaginable.

Doctors Know the Nudges

If you tell a woman in labour anywhere in a world that “a C-section might be safer for the baby,” 100% of women are going to say do the C-section.

If you tell a person anywhere in the word that you have bone on bone in your knee joint, 100% of people will say just replace it.

If you tell somebody that minimally invasive surgery to remove a cancer could spread the cancer because the gas can spread the cancer cells (which is a total myth) - guess what? 100% of people are going to say “don’t do it that way, cut me wide open.”

Doctors have learnt the nudges.

Most doctors do the right thing, but people need to be aware of the mass variations in the way things are done. And they need to know about the other lifestyle and alternative treatment options.

Ask your doctor about their individual C-Section Rates

If you tell a woman in labour anywhere in a world that “a C-section might be safer for the baby,” 100% of women are going to say do the C-section.

The importance of vaginal delivery

  • Squeezes their lungs so they sponge the fluid better.
  • IT colonises their GIT with bacteria from the vaginal canal which establishes their microbiome composition for life
  • Reduces the amount of scarring and distortion associated with C-sections.

It is not doctors who are responsible for this.

Not one single person or entity is to blame.

Disrupting the healthcare industry with private healthcare facilities with market demanded transparency.

Who is actually paying for all these outrageous costs.
“O, my insurance company pays for it, all good!.”

Solutions

How can we possibly fix the healthcare system?

  • Disrupting the market place of the medical system to help create honesty in health care.
  • Silver linings of Covid-19 to help redesign processes in the medical system.
  • Clinics that are being transparent with prices.
  • Innovators and disruptors.

Actions patients can take:

  • Ask about prices before going ahead with a prescription or procedure.
  • Use GoodRx to check what prices of medication should actually be!
  • MDSave - estimated national average for procedures. Shop around for medical services. https://www.mdsave.com

The greek world “Apocalypse” means “to uncover.”

The rise of auto-immune conditions due to over-sterilisation.

Epstein Barr Virus

  • Most of us have chronic or previous exposure to Epstein Barr in the blood.
  • But what makes so many people susceptible to re-activation or complications from this viral load?
  • Stress + toxic load triggers the virus and additionally can bring on auto-immunity.
  • Testing for Epstein Barr Virus - need to have not just an IGM, but also and IGG looking at past infections, + more. Need to have a doctor who is literate in this area.

Parasites

  • Symptoms worse around full moon.
  • Because the life cycle of the parasites is correlated with the moon cycles, and at full moon they replicate - ojas, soma,
  • May be related with EMF of the full moon.
  • Cleanse at full moon.
  • Testing is not efficient: Stool is inadequate because only dead parasites will come out.
  • Uses PCR to look for DNA.
  • The reality is! everyone has parasites! and testings may not be so effective. They are little stealth buggers and can hide well.
  • They have an affinity for heavy metals.
  • Symptoms: Grind teeth, rectal itching at night (parasites come out of the rectum at midnight), worse around full moon, diary intolerance.
  • Terrane vs. germ theory.
  • The influence of EMF on parasites.

Getting the body to heal itself.

  • Studies confirm wifi and even X-rays accelerate the release of the heavy metal and neurotoxin mercury from mercury amalgams. Studies show they double the release of mercury reals.
  • We are electrical beings - life is made up of frequency. This is why EKGs, EEGs and EMGs exist. Our brains run on electrical potential in the firing of neurons and whose heart pumps only because of an electrical circuit.
  • Studies show a change in the virulence of pathogens like listeria and E. coli. They can evade antibiotics easier.

Lead - can cause anxiety.

Prof Cohen’s impact on the field is recognised by the media and he has received four consecutive RMIT Media Star Awards as well as the inaugural award for leadership and collaboration from the National Institute of Complementary Medicine.

In this Episode we Discuss:

The Biological Implications of Fear and Emergency

Fear comprises the immune system

When stress hormones are released in the body, all your energy is sent to the outside of the body, to the peripheral.

All functions not relating to flight or fight are shut down. Thus, basically no energy is there to fight a bacteria or virus.

The blood vessels in the gut squeeze shut and the blood is pushed to the periphery, the arms and legs, to deal with flight or fight.

This is what “butterflies in your stomach” is.

When you fear you shut down growth and maintenance - the visceral functions of maintaining the body - filtering, cleaning, repairing, replacing.

Stress hormones shut down the immune system to conserve energy so it can flight or fight.

Stress response alters pro and anti-inflammatory cytokine balance (small proteins).

At the early stage of stress, the activated hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis and sympathetic nervous system (SNS) axis can up-regulate the levels of stress hormones (glucocorticoid (GCs) and catecholamines) (CAs), respectively, and then they in turn inhibit the secretion of pro-inflammatory cytokines directly or indirectly while promoting the secretion of anti-inflammatory cytokines.

The other side of the emergency

To emerge and see.

Balancing hyper arousal from sources such as the main stream news.

Our innate immunes system.

Heat to treat viral illness

  • Particularly for envelope viruses like respiratory viruses.
  • Keeping a warm humid environment.
  • Keep humidity in home before 40-60%. - Please ensure humidity does not exceed this amount because then mould will become virulent.
  • Cooking with the lid of pot open.
  • Steam inhalation with Prandhara.
  • Saunas.
  • Sipping hot water and inhaling the steam.

Dr. Marcs Research: Turning up the heat on COVID-19: heat as a therapeutic intervention

Be responsible and careful with heat treatment - stay hydrated and know your body type.

Viruses can’t survive in 55-60 degrees celsius. Viruses don’t have very sophisticated repair mechanism to cope with heat.

The management of humidity inside buildings.

Nasya

The Ayurvedic practice of Nasya to enhance the health of nasal passage.

Why everyone is going to get this virus.

As it migrates into the collective microbiome.

Control of the media. - Positive messages are not able to get out, and oppressive messages are becoming mandated. Disempowerig the population of the world.

Get radical and enjoy yourself during the pandemic.

Make your home a heath resort. And go out in nature and make it a health resort.

Balance the time that you spend in fear with time in bliss.

The psychological benefits sauna.

The importance of good sleep.

Enhancing our water is the most powerful thing we can do to enhance our health

Water filtering and restructuring.

Why it’s more important to bathe in clean water than drink it.

People put organic cosmetics on their skin but bathe in tap water.

We are water - 99% of our molecules are water.

But this changes as we get older - “dying is drying.”

Replacing plastic water bottle - It is estimated we eat a plastic credit card each week in our food chain - due to the prevalence of plastic in our ecosystem, oceans and food chain.

The worlds best water system

 Extreme Wellness Water Filter

Dr. Marc has spent decades in integrative medicine and when I lecture on detoxification and the Ten Toxic Truths he was frequently asked. . .
"What’s the best water filter?"
Until now his answer has always been "It's complicated!".
So he set out to discover the best water filtration system and when no system met his requirements, his decided to develop my own.
Now Marc (and I) can finally say Extreme Wellness Water Filters are the best quality filters you can buy, and he is now proud to provide clean water solutions to the world.  Learn More

Embracing Change Enthusiastically, Navigating Crisis & Nature’s Play | Gary Gorrow {Podcast #034}

When you embrace change enthusiastically, you have a say and influence in how the change occurs.

Look at this opportunity with great enthusiasm.

An opportunity to challenge the assumptions of everything.
Is the ever repeating known you are indulging in really the most evolutionary thing you can be doing?

A mass awakening is on the brink of dawning. But we need to get radical.
Get radical by radiating absolute bliss amongst the collective, in the streets, in the grocery stores.
Get radical by enthusiastically enjoying your self and having fun!

This is episode part 2 on how to navigate during crisis's and pandemics. View part 1 here.

About Gary Gorrow

Gary has earned a reputation as one of the best in the meditation field and is respected among his peers as a ‘teacher of teachers’.

He has worked with thousands of people from all walks of life and his services are sought after by some of the world’s leading companies.

Gary is passionate about empowering people with techniques that enable them to re-engineer their lives inside and out.

He is a practical and down to earth character who dedicates himself solely to working with people to maximise performance and success in their personal and professional lives.

In This Episode We Discuss

Is There Such a Thing as Right and Wrong

  • Right and wrong are relative terms and, therefore, nothing in existence can be said to be absolutely right the absolutely wrong.
  • Everything in creation is so intimately connected with every other thing that is not possible to completely distinguish existence of one thing from another.
  • In the state of cosmic consciousness, when individual mind gains the status of cosmic mind, they function on the high level of right life and naturally unaffected by the influences of wrong.
  • For those his consciousness is not raised to the level of cosmic consciousness, we must find an adequate criterion for right and wrong.

How to Deal With Frustration about Pandemic

The growing distrust about the narrative run by the mainstream media and its various agencies.

The Vedic View on this Pandemic

Universality and Diversity

The three realms to consider:

  1. Gross, relative, surface of the event.
  2. Subtle - is there a motive behind this? Was this a spontaneous event? Is there a ruling elite that are leveraging on this crisis?
  3. Transcendent.

The interplay of very contrasting forces at times.

Everyone lives and acts according to their level of consciousness.

The mixture of old and new souls on the planet.

Never denounce anything or anyone. That is a violent act.

Feeling more deeply into your own inner wisdom and sensibility.

Ignorant and dark forces are a catalyst for people to gain a greater perspective.

A condition that all humans suffer from: we all seek confirmation bias.

We tend to exclude everything that doesn’t confirm what we hold to be true.

In society we all benefit from rich and dynamic exchange of various view points.

Once an idea gets adopted by the collective. It somehow gets embedded into the belief systems.

What’s coming next in the playbook?

Questioning the system has become forbidden.

The truth is now irresponsible.

Almost as if it hangs a sign on the front door saying "free thinkers are not welcome here."

Rebellious nature

Gives a balanced perspective and not blindly accept things.

Honouring our individual nature and the flavour of our personality. Not ignoring it.

Bystanders

They know the truth but are choosing to ignore to some extent and take no action.

Why are gurus and spiritual leaders not speaking up? Only the medical profession.

The various ways and roles spiritual leaders can play and are playing during crisis and pandemic.

The Mental Gunas (Qualities / Mental Doshas)

  1. Sattva (purity)
  2. Rajas (stimulation)
  3. Tamas (inertia)

By increasing purity and lightness of being (sattva), we ultimately reduce the excess stimulation and irritability (rajas) as well as inertia and darkness (tamas). How to increase sattva hence reduce tamas and rajas.

What happened to the celestial beings who existed along side the humans, and then disappeared.

Realising Our Potential

We see only 1-2% of the visual spectrum and hear only 1-2% of the audio spectrum. So there is an enormous amount of information which we don’t perceive in our normal waking conciseness.

Vedic view is that there is a subtler level of creation which is the realm of these angelic divine beings, and also their opposite.

The mass awakening and permeation of divine beings that is near and upon us

(early May 2020).

Time for Radical Action & a Mass Awakening

Civil disobedience has to be this new fashion.

Get radical by radiating absolute bliss amongst the collective, in the streets, in the grocery store.

Get radical by enthusiastically enjoying your self and having fun!

Transforming Crisis Into Opportunity & Embracing Uncertainty | Gary Gorrow {Podcast #033}

How do you navigate through uncertainty?
How can you thrive whilst going through a time of radical change?

You may have gained a greater understanding and perspective on the medical reality of the germ that is Covid-19, thus do not fear it, however, whilst gaining perspective you may have been exposed to the dark truth and hidden agendas that are involved in this "plannedemic."

How do we interact with these evil and dark forces? How do we support the light, the positive and enlighten the collective?

If you retaliate against evil, you lower yourself to the level of the wrong.
Rather let the wrong be just a drop in the ocean of your virtue.

And what really is the bigger picture behind all this?

Gary Gorrow is interviewed to share wisdom on the greater perspective view on all this.

Biological fear chemistry

The problem with fear is that is shuts down our executive functions, compromises our immunity and ultimately disempowers us.

Questioning the programming of our culture.

Gandhi was powerful because he has the support of many people. A human empowered movement will be able to rewrite an entire system of humanity.

How to we react and relate to this evil or negative force of nature.

If you resist evil you must stoop to that level fo evil, and furthermore you are responsible for the evil influence you produce by retaliating.

If you retaliate you lower yourself to the level of the wrong. Rather let the wrong be just a drop in the ocean of your virtue. Let the impurities of the atmosphere find a refuge in the ocean of purity in your heart, in the unfathomable joy of your inner pure conscience.
~ Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, Science of Being and Art of Living

“Knowledge Eliminates Fear” - Rk Veda.

Knowledge means perspective.

Opposite forces are not opposed, but they are in relationship.

There is a connection between light and dark, good and bad, night and day. There has always been an interplay of opposites.

Heaven and hell, Dharma and Adharma, Health and Disease, Enlightenment and Ignorance.

Darkness is rising up and challenging the increase of consciousness.

The Four Yugas (Eras)

  1. Krita Yuga / Sat Yuga (The Sinless Age of Purity)

  2. Treta Yuga (When evil sprouted in the hearts of the men of the treta yuga).

  3. Dwapara Yuga (An age of conflict and men doubted the very nature of truth).

  4. Kali Yuga (The Age of Ignorance)

Raksas’s (Dark or Negative Forces)

Raksas's get their food and sustenance from manipulation and fears.

Show your love and appreciation for those dark forces. Salute them.

The gift of the dark: it comes to challenge. The darkness rises to prompt people to awaken and dive into action.

Appreciate the play of creation, light and dark, and realise it’s your role to be aware of those forces and love them.

Tactic: Fear Sensationalism

Get people into a state of hyper-arousal, get them to contract, and then you can have them.

But what about if people were able to become fearless. Then none of that would work.

Ignorance ain’t bliss. Ignorance is a disaster.

As people begin to look into that they start to feel so uncomfortable.

Fear is the poison to the soul and it dulls the light of the world.

Collective Relationships and Alliances

When you transcend the fear of wanting happiness only for yourself, and too much stressing on that and too much thinking about that, rather think of others needs and you’ll actually get more happy and more fulfilled.

Questioning the design of our living.

Working or spending the best part of your day in a building or institution.

Is that the best use of my life energy?

Now more than ever, it has never been better for a whole system redesign.

There’s a big correction. We are being asked to reassess.

We need more visionaries to lead humanity.

Collectively embracing radical change. Let’s not go back to how the world was, let’s create something new.

COVID-19 is a spiritual bootcamp everyone has been enlisted to.

Enjoy the show.

The importance of the mind.

Gut Health for Mental Health + Microbiome Wisdom | Kriben Govender {Podcast #032}

An exciting area of modern science is exploring the connection between the gut and our brain. They are intimately connected.

The bi-directional communication pathway in us has been dubbed the gut-brain axis.

There’s plenty of evidence that stress and violence will negatively affect one’s microbiome, mood, immunity and bodily functions.

According to Ayurveda, 85%-99% of health concerns originate as digestive imbalance - "manda agni"

The collective of micro-organisms that dominate the human body, the microbiome, play a very large role in gut health, mental health, and basically all biological functions.

We are 90% bugs. Most of the cells in our body are microbial.

We need to get more familiar with the microbes that dominate our gut.

About Kirben Govender

Kriben Govender, is a Food Scientist, Registered Nutritionist and Founder of Nourishme Organics, a company specialising in Gut Health and Mitochondrial health-focused products and Allele Microbiome – a provider of cutting edge Metagenomic Stool Testing and Deuterium Testing.

With more than 20 years of Food industry experience in the field of Research and Development, Quality Assurance and Procurement, Kriben intimately understands the food supply chain and the interaction between diet and the gut microbiome. He has personally visited more than 100 food processing sites across the world. Kriben is an expert in the art of making fermented foods like Kefir, Kombucha and fermented vegetable etc and was a Judge in the 2019 RASV Australia Food Awards.

He is the host of one of Australia's leading Nutrition Podcasts - The Gut Health Gurus Podcast  where he frequently interviews health experts from around the world.

In This Episode We Discuss

Kriben’s current anxiety and gut issues that are manifesting in the stressful times of COVID-19.

Kriben’s struggle with anxiety and depression

Then corporate work further exacerbating his stress.

Taking a nuclear anti-biotic which changed his mental health overnight.

He was suicidal and ready to end his life, then learnt about the gut-brain axis.

What is the Microbiome

The collective of microbiome - Bacteria, yeast, viruses parasites.

The gut-brain axis is a bi-directional communication pathway.

  • Most of the communication is going from gut to brain via the vegas nerve into the brain.
  • Stress can alter the micro-organisms in the gut.

There is no such thing as a good and bad parasite or virus. It is all about harmony and balance.

Some when out of balance can create disease.

The Important Purpose of Viruses in Nature

  • They are the only things that can quickly change our genome.
  • COVID-19 in problematic because it is novel - we have never been exposed to it and have not developed herd immunity to it.
  • Viruses are natures
  • Scientists have been using Corona viruses to implement gene therapy protocols for many years.

Mitochondria

  • Ancient microbes
  • Modern mitochondrial insults - nnEMF, chemicals, air pollution, artificial lighting, unclean water, over consumption of sugar.
  • Damaged mitochondria leads to poor immunity.

GABA in the Gut

  • Gamma-Aminobutyric acid - an amino acid produced by the brain.
  • Chief inhibitory neurotransmitter.
  • Reducing neuronal excitability - relaxation, reduces stress, increases calm, balances mood, alleviates pain and helps with sleep. - “The brakes of the brain.”
  • Responsible for the regulation of muscle tone.
  • Food sources - Kefir, yoghurt, whole grain, walnuts, almonds, citrus, berries, spinach, broccoli.

Seratonin

A study showed 95% of serotonin production occurs in the gut.

5-hydroxytryptamine receptors or 5-HT receptors, or serotonin receptors are derived from the gut.

Selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors (SSRIs) inhibits 5-HT re-uptake (reabsorption of the neurotransmitter - important because it allows for recycling of neurotransmitters and how their release lasts).

Dopamine

Responsible for cognitive functions such as decision making, attention, memory, motivation, and reward.

A study showed how Dopamine is produced in the gut by showing a "considerable urinary excretion of dopamine metabolites indicates that large amounts of dopamine are produced in unknown locations of the body."

Microbes affect how people metabolise these compounds, regulating the amount that circulates in the blood and brain.

Enteric Nervous System

  • Second brain. Located in the gut. A nervous system the size of a cats brain. All your nerve plexuses end in your gut.
  • Modulated peristalsis, going to the toilet.
  • Everything starts from umbilicus.

Butyrate / Butyric Acid and Leaky Gut

  • From butyric acid - a health beneficial short chain fatty acid.
  • It got its name from the latin word for butter, butyrum.
  • Your gut bacteria produces butyrate from prebiotic fibres in plant foods. Specifically clostridium butyricum.
  • While is was first discovered in butter, ghee is the highest source of this superfood.
  • Reduces anxiety and depression. Provides neuro-protective effects.
  • Helps digestion by maintaining integrity of the GI mucosa and gut lining.
    • Can plug a leaky gut.
    • Intestinal permeability - in a healthy barrier, tight functions are relaxed allowing water and nutrients to pass through.
    • It is the main energy source for colonocytes, the cells which make up your gut lining. - Unlike other cells in the body which use glucose (sugar) as the main energy source.
    • Colonocytes help provide an oxygen-free environment in which beneficial gut microbes thrive.
  • Inhibits growth of unwanted bacteria in the gut and interfered with the growth of toxic bacteria.
  • Anti-inflammatory.
  • Encourages growth of the beneficial bacteria like Bifidobacterirum.
  • Supports and regulates healthy bowel motions.
  • Supports the health of intestinal mucosa during inflammatory bowel conditions.
  • Supports health cholesterol.
  • Increases cellular energy production.
  • Reduction in fatty tissue and hunger levels.

Triggers for leaky gut

Improve tight junctions in the gut lining

Flavanoids (fresh fruits), omega 3 fatty acids, sea-weed, glutamine (fermented veggies, broccoli, bone broth collagen peptides), sulforafan (broccoli and broccoli sprouts), vitamin D (sun), Vitamin A (cod liver oil, sardines), Zinc (oysters), Butyrate, sulforaphane, some probiotics (MegaSporeBiotic), and Kefir.

Circadian Medicine

  • Light signalling.
  • Reduce artificial blue light, especially after sunset, since that increases cortisol and reduces melatonin.
  • Use blue light blocking glasses. Both Kriben and I recommend RA optics (discount code: VITALVEDA)
  • Download iris tech to shield your computer screen from blue light.
  • Your digest fire (agni) is resulted by the sun. Have a good lunch and light dinner.
  • The light hitting your skin while you eat has an effect on digestion. - Beware of the light your are eating under - eat under natural light, and not under artificial light. This particularly effect blood glucose.

General Principles for Eating:

  • Whole foods, avoid packaged foods.
  • Fresh foods. Avoid left overs.
  • Eat local foods. Foods that are grown and sourced locally.
  • Relax and eat.

Kefir

  • Countless health benefits.
  • Two types: Milk Kefir and Water Kefit (vegan).
  • How to Make: Simply add 1tsp of kefir grains into a glass of 250ml milk, leave for 24 hours and strain. Then pass the yoghurt through a sieve, and keep the kefir grains for next time.
  • What are Kefir grains - symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast. Scientists can’t replicate the grains in labs. People replicate and share the grain amongst each other.
  • They replicate. Kriben hypothesises they found the the kefir grains in a stomach (biofilm) of a goat. Water kefir grains come from a type of cactus.
  • Around 15 strains of bacteria in water kefir.

Microbes are sensitive to Sattva (pure state of mind and consciousness)

  • There’s plenty of evidence that stress and violence will negatively affect one’s microbiome, mood, immunity and bodily functions.
  • Sattvic bugs. - sattvic lifestyle.
  • Spiritual people.
  • We are 90% bugs. Our consciousness impacts that.

Rhythmicity

  • Very emerging science, funnily enough, a key Ayurvedic recommendation for health and to balance vata.
  • Consistent and regular waking times, sleeping times, light exposure, eating times, bowel motions.

The Vedic View on Mediums & Spirit Communicators

I respect “The Medical Medium (Anthony Williams),” I think his story is interesting and amazing, and I validate that the information he shares with the public is coming from “Spirit.”

I also support what he is sharing because it is helping the collective heal naturally.

However, I have always found the medical advice, particularly the treatment recommendations, rather ineffective and weak, (and of course non-individualised).

Maharishi Mahesh Yogi’s view on mediums explains why…

“There are some who try to use the supernatural power of creation by contacting the spirits world through a medium or by invoking spirits.

This represents a very limited level of strength because no spirit is in possession of the total power of nature.

There may be spirits more powerful than man, but invoking these spirits or acting as a medium for them is not a practice to be encouraged. There are two reasons for this:

  1. The power gained through these spirits is an insignificant, infinitesimal fraction of the poor of almighty nature;

  2. To receive this fraction of the power of nature one must give oneself completely to that spirit’s influence (for the spirit to co-operate).

Instead of giving oneself completely to a spirit and only gaining a small amount of power, one should give oneself completely to the divine Being (such as through meditation) and gain the unlimited, almighty power of nature.”

~ Maharishi Mahesh Yogi

Thus, I have always valued more and found way more powerful the medical protocols provided by my Gurus, who are Ayurvedic doctors that are particularly well established in Being (at high levels of consciousness), thus have access to the unlimited, almighty power of nature which they implement in their Ayurvedic medicine.
