I have meditated in some of the wildest places...

On multiple occasions, back when I was a die-hard music festival goer, I would perch up the front of crowded mosh-pits, squashed amongst sweaty people for hours, firmly maintaining my spot close to the stage.

In between music acts (approx. 30 mins), the wise, brave & weak punters would sit on the floor (if they could wriggle up space) to rest their long standing legs.

But I was even wiser…
I would sit & meditate.
Bum on the sticky floor, cross-legged with my knees up a little high, (as there was not enough space to spread).
So in the 30 min gap between acts, while the interim DJ would blast music, people talking & the occasional beer spillage would fall onto my bare skinned leg, I would sit amongst all the excitement & de-excite. I would meditate.
And it may surprise you, but I actually had some very transcendental deep experiences.

Of course, many onlookers were fascinated. At times they tolerated my actions & even respectfully gave me some space. Perhaps it was because they thought I was not feeling well, was to drunk or OD-ing on drugs (I never drank or did drugs at these times)…

But the truth was, nature was supporting me. Even if they thought I was OD-ing on the floor, I was cool with that. They were giving me space and I was grateful. I was hovering at the cusp of transcendence while simultaneously aware of all that was going around me. ( #Ritam ).

But they were even more fascinated with what came next….

Not only fascinated, but shocked.

As soon as the lights suddenly went out, the crowd screamed loud as their wait for the next act was over. My new friends became more shocked (and excited) when they saw me shoot up like a rocket from my meditative platform.

And then the music started…
My high energy and unusual dancing moves that were outlets for me to express my kundalini energy (infinite creative energy), coupled with passionate vein swelling head-banging, had my fellow punters shocked (& excited, and perhaps some a little scared) when they witnessed me make love with the music.

Luckily, no noise is a barrier to #VedicMeditation .

I have done self-abhyanga (Ayurvedic self-oil-mass

I have done self-abhyanga (Ayurvedic self-oil-massage) in some of the wildest places.

Once I was on a group tour in the Israeli desert and slept with 50 other people in a single bedouin tent. There were about another 10 of these tents, so hundreds of people were camping together in this desert community.
The men’s bathroom zone contained about 9 tiny wooden square cubicle showers in a row.
I remember sitting on the dusty floor of the cubicle with half of my leg sticking out the bottom gap of the door, giving myself an oil massage while laughingly sensing the confused reactions of folk on the other side of the thin walls.

When going on a road trip or camping, I find a comfortable space to lather up then massage, ideally close to a body of water for easy post-bathing.

Even if I can’t sit down and find a relaxing place, I will do the self-massage standing up with my head hunched over in a van, or behind a bush because the ground is full of uncomfortable leaves and sticks and I don’t have a towel/mat to sit on, or i’ll be squeezed in a camping tent on a hot summers morning… applying oil to the body and massaging it is the precursor before daily bathing. Even if it’s the “short version”. And it’s so worth it.

So most of you reading this bathe everyday (I hope). This is one thing of the Ayurvedic daily routine (“dinacharya”) you probably get right.

But as well as washing your skin and body via the good old familiar bathing (known as “snan” in Ayurveda), we ALSO need to:
- lubricate the skin and body tissues
- activate the lymph
- enhance blood circulation
- feed the microbiome that lives on our skin
- and pacify and strengthen our nervous system (our skin has more nerve endings than any other part of our body)

Does it seem to you that the sun is seemingly getting brighter and you are finding it harder to see outdoors without sunglasses?

This may be an indication of weakness and degeneration of your eye and visual health.

When you wear sunglasses, you receive and altered and unbalanced spectrum of light hitting your retina.

As soon as we start manipulating the light that hits our eyes, disease begins.

Sunglasses critically influence our hormones (photo-endocronology), mood and mental health, and may even have carcinogenic affects.

Sunglasses certainly have their place, but according to Ayurveda, a common root cause of disease is misuse of the senses (Asatmya indriyartha samyog).

Water moving underground, untouched by the waste of animals and certainly out of bounds from the dissonant refuse of modern industrialisation and it’s chief commander, human kind.

Sri Water, the divine feminine flowing in abundant liquidity, then finds an opening to offer her nourishment and purifying power to the rest of the world that resides above ground and under light.

From the dark underground, the mineral rich contents of the aquifer overflows onto land surface to not only hydrate all beings, but also to unite with Sri Sun ☀️ and together, energise all aspects of earth.

If you can find a Spring, an outlet of the divine feminine’s infinite organising power, I encourage you to encapsulate the water at first light.

This far supersedes the best water filters filtering and even restructuring tap water, since although that water may now be mostly free of chemicals, it is still dead water.
The Prana (life force) in tap water has been pulverised by chemicals added by government bodies. Some of this I am thankful for, as I can now drink that water as a last resort, safe from pathogens (unlike some Asian countries: Delhi/Bali belly).
But tap water, or more appropriately as my friend @jenisabelfriend calls it, “tap liquid”, is dead liquid which does not provide you with proper hydration. You wonder why you’re still dehydrated?

Furthermore, what better way to connect to our primal roots of gathering water. Especially to exercise the healthy masculine for our selves and society.

I mostly get spring water delivered for drinking and more importantly, filter and restructure my bathing water. But occasionally, it’s always profoundly empowering and nourishing to go harvest 130L of fresh spring Apa with my friends💧.

8 Tips to Avoid Toxins Over Xmas 🎄 & Silly Season (& Still Indulge)

The festive season is here! and along with it an abundance of edible delights seem to be just about everywhere!

Over 99% of us are going to break the rules and indulge. Great! Enjoy it! (guilt-free and in moderation). But accordingly, support your digestive ability to "digest the silly season" at ease with minimal repercussions.

It is hard not to overindulge and accumulate Ama, the toxic waste-product of incomplete digestion.

Ama is a sticky, thick, mucus-like substance that if not cleaned out, will clog bodily channels and vitiate the “weak part” (kavyaguna) in your body.

Joints, lungs and sinuses are typical weak spots where ama accumulates, but ama will vitiate different tissues and areas depending on the person.

The accumulation of ama is an initial stage of the disease process according to Ayurveda. After that, it will eventually manifest into disease and more full-blown clinical features down the track.

Sure the living is easy in the summertime, but my

Sure the living is easy in the summertime, but my joint regions are also getting sweaty while hydration diminishes at a quicker rate in the hot and dry sunshine that unconditionally radiates of Pure Divinity.

While I love to sun-bake with maximum skin exposure for long periods of time, even though I lather up with skin protecting and cooling coconut oil to assist in creating harmony between the sun and my skin, regularly drink thin lassi (buttermilk) to exceptionally hydrate and cool myself, and turn the kebab that is my flesh for even “human photosynthesis” cooking, it is certainly wise to implement other measures to dissipate heat, reduce inflammation and stay cool.

How Summer Heat Affects Your Biology:
1 The very hot sun takes away the strength of the earth and all things on earth.
2. “Thermal accumulation" - you may begin to feel inner heat accumulate.
3. The heat in your body rises, which dries out your skin and sinuses, leaving them sensitive and irritated.
4. Sinuses may begin to run a lot - creating mucous is the body’s response to this dryness.
5. You may experience looser stools – the body’s response to remove the heat. Intestines become irritated and inflamed.
6. "Hot Pitta Emotions" - anger, frustration, aggressiveness and irritability - other ways your body reacts to the heat.

Summer is an important time of year to not let the heat take over and dry us out.

Take this seriously. If you don’t get rid of the heat now, the heat will turn to dryness and you will suffer the following winter.

Going from a hot and dry summer to cold and dry winter will profoundly increase vata (bio-energy related with nervous system and bodily movements) - weakening ojas (vitality and immunity), which then leaves you susceptible to creating the perfect breeding grounds for colds, flus, viruses, infections and other undesirables.

Good News is that you can still worship the sun like a lizard and sweat like a gypsy with a mortgage.

You can mitigate the excess heat by honouring summer’s harvest by eating seasonally, incorporating specific herbs, therapies and other techniques associated with the seasonal routine of summer.
