What Is Ayurveda

Ayurveda is a system of holistic medicine that encompasses a vast spectrum of sophisticated science which at it's essence, lies simple intuitive knowledge.
This wisdom can be practically applied to any living creature, wherever in the world they reside, and whatever their life circumstances entail.

There are no rules in Ayurveda. It is based on principles, which are there for each individual to take to their own unique life and apply in a way that is relevant to them.

In accordance with addressing the health of individuals, Ayurveda includes the entire universe, nature, the body, mind and spirit.

Ayurveda comes from a sanskrit word with two roots:
Ayur means “life”.
Veda means “knowledge” or “science”.
Thus, Ayurveda आयुर्वेद translates to "the science of life”.

This ancient science guides us how to live in harmony with nature and it’s rhythms and cycles. When you live in tune with nature, you align with your own unique human nature. That is where perfect health lies.

Ayurveda is part of the Veda – the body of that knowledge that governs the laws of nature, from which yoga, meditation, Ayurveda, Stapatyaveda (vedic architecture), Jyotish (vedic astrology) all come from.

Within nature, there are five elements (Space, Air, Fire, Water, Earth) that compose everything in the universe, including the human body.

In order to live in harmony with nature, Ayurveda guides you to tune in and becomes aware of your own unique elemental make up. In Ayurveda there are three elemental types, known as "doshas":

  • Vata: likened to winter - cold and dry. Your nervous system and body are dominated by air.
  • Pitta: likened to summer - hot, fiery, competitive and driven.
  • Kapha: likened to spring - retaining water, easy going, heavier set, mellow.

You have the memory of perfect health.
When you were born, you were basically perfectly healthy. And even if you were not, maybe you were missing an organ or some defect was present at birth, you still have the memory of perfect health at a cellular level.

Rather than focusing disease, Ayurveda enlivens health. It reminds your body and mind what it is to be healthy. When that sense of health is restored and re-established, disease ultimate dissipates.

Through a wide variety of holistic and preventative actions and treatments such as dietary principles, lifestyle recommendations, herbal remedies, body treatments, therapies and more dynamic vedic and natural interventions, Ayurveda helps bring your body and mind back to its true, natural, birth-rite state of health.

Then you can live in peace with minimal to no suffering and radiate love and rich inspiring radiance for all to enjoy.

“The Abhyanga session was the most relaxed I have been in months”

"Discovering Ayurveda about 10 years ago remains one of the most profoundly significant experiences of my life. Being a mum with young children the opportunity for me to return to India for some authentic healing is a while away so to recently discover Dylan Smith of Vital Veda in Bondi is wonderful. He is living his Dharma and offering such a beautiful gift of deep, nourishing healing. I just blissed out during an Abhyangha and have booked in for next week too. Dylan is amazing. I am so grateful to him for doing what he does.”
Amy Atkin, The Modern Mind Clinic
“I was fortunate enough to have a consultation with Dylan when his close associate from India, Dr Raju visited Melbourne in June. The experience was rather eye-opening and unique. Dr Raju was humble yet freakishly insightful and Dylan expertly interpreted/explained the treatments as well as dispensing correct medicines and answering any questions I had. A memorable and excellent experience.”

The best Abhyanga outside of India. For an authentic Ayurvedic massage, I highly recommend Dylan. His attention to all the subtle details of Ayurveda; from the hot oil to his intention while treating you make for a wonderful experience. He is a gifted healer and you will come away from the treatment feeling calm, centred and happy. It is so much more than a massage."
