Why Wearing Sunglasses Is NOT Healthy

Does it seem to you that the sun is seemingly getting brighter and you are finding it harder to see outdoors without sunglasses?

This may be an indication of weakness and degeneration of eye and visual health.

One of the reasons for this visual and light sensory susceptibility is our increased exposure to artificial light, which is an unbalanced spectrum of light hitting your retina, typically excessive amounts of blue light.

This is coupled with the rise of burying the sun from our lives, hence a deficiency in sun and day light exposure, both on our skin and eyes.

We Need a Holistic Spectrum of Light Hitting Our Eyes

As soon as we start manipulating the light that hits our eyes, that’s when diseases begin.

We want nature’s full spectrum of light hitting our eyes. This spectrum is extremely intelligent, diverse and comes with so many beneficial frequencies, most of which is modern science has not even fathomed.

But when we alter the spectrum of light hitting our eyes, for example by putting glass in-between our eyes and the sun/daylight, (glasses, contact lenses or windows), we alter the spectrum. These glasses remove the UV and the result is an altered and un-holistic spectrum of light hitting our eyes. This unharmonious and unnatural form of light is what creates disease.

Sunlight’s Critical Effects on Our Hormones

Natural Light Hitting Your Bare Eyes Critically Effects Hormones

Morning sun exposure, when it includes natural daylight hitting your retina without glass in-between, will activate the pituitary gland in your brain behind your eyes, to secrete crucial hormones(1) such as:

  1. Thyroid-stimulating hormones (TSH) - tells the thyroid gland to produce its hormones.
  2. Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) - stimulates the gonads (an endocrine gland) to produce eggs in female and sperm in males.
  3. Luteinising hormone (LH) - stimulates the gonads to produce oestrogen’s in females and testosterone in males.
  4. Prolactin (PRL) - stimulates the mammary glands of the breasts to produce milk.

Other hormones activated by morning light:

  1. Estradiol (E2) - an estrogen steroid hormones and the major female sex hormone. Involved in regulating the mensural cycle, providing a women with her shakti (divine feminine energy).(1) Note that when melatonin is high, this negates the “bad oestrogen” that can contribute to cancer.
  2. Dopamine- Happiness, Bailey to think and recognise trends. The amino acid tyrosine, which is produced with sun exposure, is a precursor for dopamine.
  3. Adrelanin - Major determinant for metabolic health and homeostasis. The amino acid tyrosine, which is produced with sun exposure, is a precursor for adrelain..
  4. Non-Adrelanin - A key neurotransmitter for cardiovascular health and other internal processes. The amino acid tyrosine, which is produced with sun exposure, is a precursor for nonadrelanine.
  5. Serotonin - “Happy hormone.” The amino acid tryptophan, which is produced with sun exposure, is a precursor for serotonin.
  6. Melatonin - A powerful anti-oxidant and anti-cancer hormone. Healthy melatonin levels supports blood sugar, cravings, addictions and stress (cortisol). I like to call it “king of the hormones.” The amino acid tryptophan, which is produced with sun exposure, is a precursor to melatonin.

Furthermore, studies show how morning light exposure helps regulate reproductive hormones and ovulation by increasing the ovary follicle size(1) and improve the health of the skin pigment melanin.

Sunglasses Promote Mental Health Disorders and Depression (Tamas Guna)

According to Ayurveda, depression is classified under the emotional body type or state known as Tamas Guna.

Tamas Guna can be translated to “quality of inertia.”

When the Tamas quality is dominant in an individual, the following characterises prevail:

  • Inertia - lack of zest for life, lazy, not wanting to go out, work, engage in relationships or move the body.
  • Dullness - life is dull, actions and movements are slow.
  • Resistance - resistant towards tapping into their potential and contributing to the greater good of society. Faithless and ignorant to the Divine aspects of life.
  • Darkness - dark and depressed mental state, ignorant to a lighter state of being, blind delusion, sleeping in the morning or day, sorrow.  Evil distorts their “inner world.” Intentions and actions may be destructive and harmful.

According to Ayurveda’s law, “Like Increases Like”, literal darkness will increase tamas, thus increase mental conditions such as depression.

Forms of Darkness That Increase Tamas (Inertia and Dullness)

  • Sleeping in past sunrise or in the day.
  • Lack of exposure to sunlight/daylight.
  • Wearing black clothing.
  • Engaging in movies, books or research associated with “dark” or evil energies.
  • Wearing sunglasses!

Sattva Guna (Purity)

A comon way to mitigate tamas or depression is too literally “bring in the light.”

“The Light” in Ayurveda is known as Sattva Guna.

This is another one of the three emotional body types or three prime attributes of nature.

We want Sattva to dominate our body, and Tamas to be least dominant.

One way to bring Sattva to dominant your body type is light:

  • Pure foods that are light and easy to digest.
  • Lightness of Being - achieved through meditation.
  • Literal light: get sunlight, see the sunrise, develop a relationship with the sun.
  • Love others to lighten up your heart.

Show your eyes! Others want to see them and connect with you on a deeper level. Instead of hiding behind dark glasses, connect and relate on a more open and pure level. This greater connection allows for more inspiration and a greater experience of love (Sattva).

Sun Exposure Reduces Depression

Exposure to the sun, both on your body and daylight hitting your bare eyes create beta endorphins, which are natural opioids that boost your emotional and mental state.

A deficiency in these beta endorphins leads to drugs and alcohol abuse, as well as other dopamine deficient conditions like depression, anger, excess sugar/sweets/chocolate, lust, excessive marijuana intake and excess social media.

Misuse of the Senses

A common root cause of disease according to Ayurveda is misuse of the senses.

This is known as Asatmya indriyarthaSamyog.

Mis-using the five senses can occur in three ways:

  1. Excessive use (Atiyoga).
  2. Deficient use (Hinayoga/Ayoga
  3. Perverse use / Mis-use (Mithyayoga

Wearing sunglasses when they are not required can be considered misuse. Unless it is really bright like in the snow or desert, then using it may contribute to physical and mental imbalance.

Sunglasses May Have Carcinogenic Effects

Sunglasses filter natural light, which may produce possible carcinogenic effects.

When wearing sunglasses, the pineal gland then receives the light in a different, altered colour spectrum. UV is taken out.

Lack of UV hitting the eyes means the pineal gland doesn’t produce as much melanin, which protects the skin from skin disorders and skin cancers.

Altered spectrum of light hitting the retina reduces melatonin production, which is a powerful anti-cancer hormone.

Nurses that work night shift have approximately 2x the rates of breast cancer compared to day shift workers due to their disrupted melatonin patterns, amongst other serious issues with night-shifts.

When Dr. Albert Schweitzer started working in a hospital on the west coast of Africa, there was no cancer at all.

But later it became a problem. However, their simple surroundings had not changed or modernised.

The only thing different was that mostly all natives were wearing sunglasses as a status symbol of the civilised world. They could always be found wearing them “even when paddling their dugout canoes wearing no more than a loincloth.”

Sunglasses were so prized that these new adornments carried a higher barter value than beads or other trinkets.

Every cell communicates with every other cell through light. This is why the esoteric “aura” theory is not so esoteric anymore, because it has been proved my modern science.

Biological electro-magenetic fields manifests ones aura. These fields can be seen and measured with certain technology.

What You Can Do: Recommendations for Balance

Get Outside and Look Up

Get at least 50 minutes a day of sunlight (or daylight if the sun is not out) on your skin* and eyes.

Expose as much skin as possible and don’t use glasses. Look at the sky or out into the open. Do not look directly at the sun.

Exposure in the early morning or near sunset it ideal, but eventually, you will be able to exposure for hours in a day.

*If the sun is too strong for you and your skin is not used to it, use protection like clothing, hats and shade and gradually increase your time limit until your skin can tolerate the sun with grace.

Applying oil on your skin helps improve and protect your skin physiology. You don’t want red (burnt) skin. Light pink is good as it means your blood circulation is activating to absorb UV energy into the bloodstream.

Note, some people with certain diseases like neurological disorders cannot tolerate the bright light and should consult a quality health practitioner before trying any of these recommendations.

Also note, when in a very bright environment such as the snow or desert, it is advisable to wear sunglasses/goggle. If you need sunglasses at your average beach on a sunny day, this is a sign of weak vision so it is wise to start to train your eyes again to cope with brighter light.

Choose Glasses Over Contact Lenses When Possible

For those who need glasses for their vision, firstly reduce using when you don’t need them.

Choose glasses over contacts since this will allow more oxygen to reach into the eye and allow some natural light frequencies to shine through the side openings of the glasses.

Wear Blue-Light Blocking Glasses After Sunset

Block the artificial blue-light which disrupts your hormones, circadian signalling and degrades eye health.

Blue-light blocking glasses are one of the most crucial appliances for the 21st century.

Herbal Eye Nourishment

It is wise to strengthen your eyes with herbal wisdom by taking herbs internally as well as external eye drops.

I highly recommend Netra Amrit Eye Drops to mitigate dry, degenerating and fatigued eyes and to most importantly prevent eye disorders.

Internally, I recommend taking Shodana Vati daily for optimal eye health.

The classical Ayurvedic formula, Sapta Amrita Loha, can help for deeper eye issues, but for that herb you should consult a quality Ayurvedic practitioner.

Sniffing Ayurvedic medicated oil up the nose, a practice called Nasya that is considered a daily routine in Ayurveda, is also wise to strengthen all your sensory organs and prevent them from degenerating. I recommend to only allow high quality medicated oils like Nasika to enter the sensitive tissue inside your nose.

Air Pods & Bluetooth Wearables – The New Death Sticks

Move over cigarettes, AirPods and other Bluetooth wearables are the new death sticks. Man, if they're inserting into your brain, they may even be worse than fags.

The health ramifications of non-native electro-magnetic fields (nnEMF), including radio-frequencies (RF), are highly underestimated and snubbed although they are currently classified in Group 2B possible carcinogen to humans, with research beginning to shift them towards a 2A or Group 1 carcinogen.

Ignoring this prevails due to the fact you can’t see or feel these frequencies (unless you are hyper-sensitive). But the reality is cold in the science, nnEMFs are absolutely biologically active.

Many of you know this (although may remain ignorant to it), but let’s talk bluetooth specifically.

The problem with bluetooth is it emits very specific pulse radio frequency signals.

These have extremely short wavelengths (short = penetrating and damaging) which transmits with an extremely rapid rise and fall in times and distance (pulsation).

It turns out, the rate of change of these fields during the pulsation is what causes the most biological damage. Rather than the complete total energy that they deliver.

Pulsed radio frequency signals have been very well-studied (see the work of Dr. Robert O. Becker).

One of the implications of keeping nnEMF near your body is that it makes your blood-brain barrier (BBB) permeable. This allows toxins free entrance into the brain.
Furthermore, we know how important the gut-brain axis is.
When your BBB is open, anything that happens in your gut is going to directly alter your water chemistry and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). 

So you think it's just in your ear?

Understand that all the blood vessels in your body and in your brain then become electric wires that can send all this flickering information to places all over your body. Furthermore, your blood plasma is 93% water and has salt in it. This biological fluid of yours is a great conductor for all of these devices.

Add some metal implants from surgery or tattoos (heavy metal leeching) in the mix and your conducting these treacherous devices at greater rates.

Now let’s look at bluetooth headpieces specifically.

AirPods have been found to produce an average nnEMF significantly higher than other bluetooth/wired headphones and are constantly transmitting at these levels, even when they are not in use.

When you are wearing two AirPods this makes matters a whole lot worse. They cross communicate - the signal goes from your phone to one of the AirPods, then it sends the signal to the other one, straight through your 🧠 , brain.

So when good intentioned folk like yourself are getting these really weird diseases and doctors don’t know why it happens, it’s because they fundamentally don't understand how pulsed microwaves interact.

When you do go to the doctor and the doctor can't figure out why all of a sudden under your Apple Watch, Fitbit, AirPods or bluetooth headphones you have got this allergic reaction, underachieve thyroid, leaky gut, cancer or an auto-immune condition, it’s because docs aren’t taught this stuff in medical school. This is the domain of physics. That's why it's important to cross-pollinate physics and biology.

This is why 250+ scientists made an international appeal to the UN and WHO warning about the dangers of AirPods and other wireless devices.

I know, Bluetooth and mobile technology can make us more productive. There are positives to this technology and I enjoy them. The problem is we're not being told how it's destroying the cell architecture and how it can affect our medical problems.

45mw is like an Antenna Inserted Into Your Brain

IEEE (the world’s largest technical professional organisation) standards recommend the safe peak exposure rate of a human should be less than 0.08 W/kg.(1)

This is based on the Specific Absorption Rate (SAR). SAR is the power of absorbed RF wave per unit mass of tissue. Ie. how much electric fields polarise the molecules in human body when human tissue near a nnEMF device absorbs the power of the RF signal.

This level of 45mW sure ain’t helpful for your temporal lobe. It’s like having antennas in your brain.

Definition of Healthy and Proper Sleep

The ability to fall asleep straight away, no waking up in the night and waking up with energy in the morning.

If sleep is not right, we need to look the many causative factors:

  • hormonal
  • “wired and tired”
  • stress
  • musculoskeletal issue - e.g. Sciatica
  • Asthma or cough
  • Full determine in a consultation to address the root cause.

Improper Timed Sleep

Sleep indulged into at improper time, in excess or not at all, destroys one’s happiness.

  • Not sleeping at nights causes dryness of the body; - vata
  • sleeping during the day causes increase of unctuousness, - kapha
  • reclining leisurely without sleeping, causes neither. - This how to sleep in the day. Or sit up.

Diva-Svapna (Day Sleep)

Beneficial during grisma (summer) but perhaps not in mild summers nor for meditators.

Sleeping during the day is permissible for those who are

  • tired from excess indulgence in speech,
  • riding on animals,
  • walking long distances,
  • alcoholic drinks,
  • sexual intercourse
  • lifting heavy weights;
  • anger, grief and fear;
  • those suffering from dyspnoea, hiccup and diarrhoea;
  • the aged, the young,
  • the debilitated, the emaciated,
  • the wounded,
  • the thirsty;
  • those suffering from pain, indigestion; injury, insanity (and other kinds of mental disorders)
  • and those habituated to sleeping at day time.

Atisvapna (Excess of Sleep)

  1. Kapha, not undergoing regular processing because of its increased quantity, obstructs the orifices of the dhatus (tissues);
  2. Obstruction of orifices causes heaviness of the body,
  3. From heaviness follows laziness,
  4. Which in turn causes excess sleep.
  5. This produces diseases.

Methods to Promote Optimal Sleep

Meditation

Regularly meditation. I recommend Vedic Meditation twice a day.

Self-Abhyanga

Ayurvedic oil massage to pacify nervous system, rejuvenate body and promote your body's ability to sleep well.

Mental State

  • a sense of satisfaction having done good deeds,
  • thinking of things pleasant to the mind
  • and fulfilment of desire

- all these are going to bestow happy sleep.

It’s not about how many hours but when

Sleep before 10pm and wake up with or before sunrise.

Early and light dinner

Hot Milk Elixir

Drink 30-45 mins before bed and sleep like a baby.

Siro-Pichu + Pad Abhyanga

Apply oil to the crown of the head, then massage feet before bed.

Women - massage left foot first.

Men - massage right foot first.

Can put on socks if you don't want to get bed sheets a little oily. I don't and it is fine.

Optimise Melatonin

  • Maintain as much darkness after sunset as possible with little blue light.
  • Wear blue light blocking glasses after sunset.
  • Expose yourself to sun in the day.
  • Dark bedroom at night.
  • Use a dark face mask at night.

Bedroom Environment

  • Sleep free of nnEMF (non native Electromagnetic fields).
  • Sleep with your head in any direction except north.
  • Check your building's biology.
  • Check your vaastu (vedic architecture).
  • A mild breeze is beneficial.
  • Aromatherapy for sleep like lavender.

Cold before bed.

Cold shower or cold environment promotes sleep.

Foods to Promote Sleep

Herbs for Sleep

  • Smriti
  • Manasolassa Vati (best to consult with a practitioner before taking this herbs).
  • Samadhi
  • Stresscom - 2 caps before dinner or with hot milk before bed.
  • Jatamansi (Nardostachys jatamansi) - balances brain neurotransmitters and aids sleep.
  • Ashwagandha - prevents release of too much cortisol. And has a sedative effect.
  • Vaca - natural sedative that calms the nerves.
  • Valerian Root - promote relaxation and sleep and decreases stress. It helps fall asleep fast, provides a better sleep quality, and provides relief from restlessness and other anxiety-related symptoms.
  • White poppy seeds - pacify prana vata and overactive mind. Add to porridge or chutney before bed.

If musculoskeletal issues are preventing proper sleep

Attend to the musculo-skeletal issue.

Apply warm MGP oil locally or make a paste with MGP oil with Marma Lepam and apply to the affected area.

Takradhara / Shirohdara (Treatment for Head and Mind)

Takra Dhara and Shirodhara is an ancient treatment where medicated buttermilk or warm oil is poured over the head in a rhythmic mater. This stabilises the mind and everything going on inside it. During this treatment, usually you'll lie in deep, blissful rest, (that is if you haven't transcended).

If you wake up at night and cannot sleep

Do not look at phone.

Do body feeling / yoga nidra.

A-Svapna (Loss of Sleep) - for those who stay up.

If one keeps awake at night due to unaccustomed conditions*, he should compensate it by sleeping the next morning, for half of that period (duration of loss of sleep) without taking any food.

*Unaccustomed conditions can be like like night partying, alcohol, late night or heavy to digest food.

Alzheimer’s: Prevent the Tsunami That Dries Out Brains

Experts are warning that “tsunamis of Alzheimer’s” are approaching the shores of human blood-brain-barriers.

Alzheimer’s is predicted to bankrupt the American Medicare system by 2033.(1)
It has now become the third leading cause of death in USA.(1)

And unfortunately, people blame these neuro-degenerative conditions on old age and think it is “normal.” They think it is “normal” for their parents or grandparents to go into an old age home with these conditions.

While this may be becoming the “norm,” it is NOT natural.

"Type 3 Diabetes.”

Alzheimer’s is becoming known what clinicians call “Type 3 Diabetes.”

This is because one of the main pathologies of Alzheimer’s is insulin resistance in the brain.

This means your brain is starving of energy. It cannot metabolise glucose (energy from food) in order to drive it into your brain for fuel.

This is why improving insulin sensitivity is an important component to PREVET and reverse cognitive decline, such as in the case Alzheimer’s.

Prevention Has Never Been So Important

I emphasise the word Prevent because:

1. All around the world we are facing epidemics of diabetes and insulin resistance. The crazy part is that a lot of these people are undiagnosed - a significant % of certain populations are pre-diabetic and do not even know it! (e.g. one third of Americans are pre-diabetic, and 90% of them do not know it!).

2. Alzheimer’s, other forms of dementia and other neuro-degenerative disorders are becoming epidemics (as mentioned above).

Ayurveda emphasises that we should have the same cognitive performance at 85 years old then we did at 30 years old. Maybe you have met elderly in their 80s, 90s, or even hundreds who are fully alert and cognitively able.

This is natural health. This is your birth right.

In addition to insulin sensitivity, there is another factor important factor for Alzheimer’s. This, in simple language, is “dry brain.”

"Dry Brain"

Ayurveda knew about Alzheimer’s and dementia thousands of years ago. They called it Vata in the brain.

This encompasses dryness in the brain, which creates a rough and insufficient connection network, resulting in synapses failing to connect brain cells with each other.

These brain cell communication mechanisms interacts with chemicals and function as neurotransmitters. This again is the vata bio-energy. Vata governs all movements in the body.

Vata also causes catabolism, or reduction of tissue. This is seen in Alzheimer’s where the outer layer of the brain (cortex) is shrinking caused by the

Beta Amyloid Plaque Deposits (Mental Ama) + Defence Response

Another component of Alzheimer’s is that plaques and neurofibrillary tangles deposit in the brain and impair synapses.

This is partly ama (undigested toxic material) that deposits and further hampers vata (communication) which is responsible for performing functions like memory, judgement, speech, enthusiasm, social skills and movement.

But we need to acknowledge why Beta amyloid plaque is there in the first place.

Beta amyloid plaque is actually part of your defence response.

Beta amyloid plaque is actually an antimicrobial peptide (AMP). It is important for host immunity and to tackle bacteria and binds to toxins like heavy metals.

It’s fine to remove amyloid, but first remove the ongoing insults which caused the plaque to increase!

Alzheimer’s is absolutely heart breaking. You don’t see it because it is behind close doors. Those who see it are those living with someone who has Alzheimer’s or those who experience it themselves.

They can’t tie their shoes, they can’t get dressed and they can’t perform activities they have loved doing ritualistically for decades.

The disease may eventually lead to complete dependence and finally pre-mature death, usually associated with another illness.

At present there is no cure for Alzheimer's disease in western medicine. Further more, drug development for Alzheimer’s has so far been a dismal failure, with 300 failed trials to date. This is because the drugs were intended to remove beta-amyloid plaque from the brain, but beta-amyloid is a symptom of Alzheimer’s — not the cause.

How to Help Prevent and Heal Alzheimer's

Lubricate The Brain

Ayurveda simply uses the opposite quality to bring balance to a certain quality.

So in this case of dry brain, lubricate the brain.

Here are some ways to lubricate the brain:

1. Nasya (Sniffing Oil Up The Nose)

Nose is the gateway to the skull. So it is via this pathway that we can access the brain.

Nasya is a practice of sniffing medicated oil up the nose. It is advised to do multiple times a day as part of one’s daily routine.

This will help optimise brain function and strengthen the sensory organs.

For those who are practicing Nasya as a preventative and cognitive enhancement tool, you can use Nasika medicated oil.

For those with pre-symptoms or symptoms of a neuro-degenerative condition, we recommend you use a stronger oil like Special Nasika.

2. Massage Oil Into The Head

Regularly lubricating your scalp with oil and massaging it in will also balance the vata in the brain.

For those experiencing onset of neuronal conditions, or who want to further enhance their brain health, use an Ayurvedic medicated oil formulated specifically for brain health.

  • Brahmi Ghritam - This is a classical medicated ghee with the main ingredient brahmi (bacopa monnieri). This generally enhances overall brain health, mental state and memory.
  • MahaGandha Bala Oil - This oil strengthens the head and it particularly helpful to counter catabolic brain (such as shrinking). This overall provides a boost to optimal brain and central nervous system function.
  • HT002 Oil - This precious oil is particularly helpful in balancing the excess vata in the head. It helps in headaches, migraines, anxiety, insomnia and an overactive stressful mind.
  • General Abhyanga (medicated massage) oils - Medicated oils used for self-ayurvedic oil massage will help provide lubrication to the head.
  • Coconut or Sesame Oil - These two oils are what Ayurveda generally recommends as they can penetrate the seven layers of skin as well as go deep into the tissues such as the bone-marrow. Most of the medicated oils in Ayurveda uses sesame, coconut or ghee as a base oil.

3. Eat High Quality Fats

Ghee in very important for mostly everyone to regularly include in their diets. Due to it's ideal ratio of omega six and three this animal fat satisfies various neurological requirements from DHA (brain fuel) to support to refold or proteolyze misfolded proteins (these are typically misfolded in Alzeimer's).

Ghee and MCT oils goes directly into the cell. Or they produce ketones in the blood which can travel directly into the brain. This bypasses all that pathology and fills that energetic gap of insulin resistance and energy starvation in the brain.(2)

Most fatty acids won't cross the Blood- Brain-Barrier. These fats just may.

Furthermore, this is why cyclical ketosis can be beneficial, and why it is helpful to be metabolically flexible.

4. Shirodhara (Ayurvedic Brain & Mind Treatment)

Shirodhara is an ancient treatment where warm medicated  oil is poured over the head in a rhythmic mater. This stabilises the mind and everything going on inside it. During this treatment, usually you'll lie in deep, blissful rest, (that is if you haven't transcended).

In the case of neurological disorders, Shirodhara helps improve synapse connection, strengthens the bone marrow in the skull and regulates the hypothalamus, pituitary  and pineal glands.

We recommend a series of shirodhara treatments over consecutive days for more powerful effects.

Note, there is also an Ayurvedic treatment called Shirobasti which is similar but perhaps more powerful for neurological health.

5. Matra Basti (Small Nourishing Oil Enema)

Matra basti is a small nourishing oil enema to be administered yourself before sleep 1-3x/week or as prescribed.

Enemas are not only for the gut! As a matter of fact, the primary use of enemas are for your nervous system! Your navel is home to the Enteric Nervous System (the largest nerve plexus in the body) where all your nerve plexuses end in. Furthermore, this herbal administration method bypasses the liver. This is why Ayurvedic bastis are powerful to nourish, (not detox) the brain and central nervous system.

7 Ayurvedic Tips for a Healthy Voice

This article is relevant for anyone who makes noise with their mouth, especially singers, rappers, actors, speakers, speech therapists and anyone who wants to engage with others on a heartfelt level.

Our voice is the first thing people hear once we open our mouth. A healthy and attractive voice will resonate with the recipient(s) so as to divinely inspire them and elegantly create unity.

Our speech is also powerfully responsible for the actions in our lives.

This is how it works:

  1. The universe or cosmic intelligence has an intention.
  2. That intention bubbles up in our individuality.
  3. That intention arises into a “thought” in our mind. You get a desire for something. In fact every desire you get (when you are in a state of balance) is the desire of creative intelligence acting through you.
  4. This thought is expressed through speech.
  5. That speech becomes action.

Below are 7 Ayurvedic ways to promote a clearer, smoother, firmer and more vibrant voice.

1. Nasya (Nasal Oil)

Sniffing medicated oil up the nose throughout the day is perhaps the most powerful tool for a healthy voice.

Regularly lubricating your head, neck and throat will help maintain a clear and firm voice.

It dilates the channels for vocal cords to vibrate easily and clearly.

This practice is an essential part of the Ayurvedic daily regimen (Dinacharya).

2. Optimise Digestion

Since your Larynx (“voice box”) sits in front of your food pipe and assists in the swallowing process, it is closely related to digestion.

Your state of digestion will be reflected in your voice.

Articles and online courses on my website contains ways to improve digestion and specifically heal, lubricate and nourish your throat region.

3. Oil Pulling (Gandusha/Kavala)

Oil Pulling involves swishing a specific oil in your mouth for 15-20 minutes.

In Sanskrit, “Gandusha” means keeping the oil in the mouth, and “Kavala” means to swish it.

This delivers a catalogue of health benefits.

Not only is it another way to lubricate the head, neck and throat, but also oil is lipophilic, meaning it literally ‘pulls’ toxins out of the mouth and throat for greater clarity.

“Keeping of oil gargle provides strength in jaws and voice, development of the face, maximum taste and relish of food. One does not suffer from dryness of throat, lip cracking and teeth become firmly rooted. The teeth do not ache or become sensitive and can chew the hardest food items.”

~ Caraka Samhita Ch V -78 to 80.

4. Eat Ghee

Ghee is the crown jewel that joins Ayurvedic medicine and Indian cooking.

Using this clarified or purified butter in your cooking daily and adding onto your food is a great way to internally lubricate your whole body and clear the throat.

5. Liquorice (Yasthimadhu / Glycyrrhiza glabra)

Liquorice is a gem for your voice.

It aids digestion, calms your nervous system and soothes your throat.

Chew on a piece of liquorice root (very different to liquorice lollies), sip liquorice tea or take a herbal formula that includes liquorice.

6. Vaca Herb (Acorus Calamus/Sweet Flag)

Vaca in sanskrit literally means “speaking.”

It has a specific karma (action) of Lekhaniya (Scrapes out accumulations) - whether it is accumulations of mucous the vocal cords or respiratory system, or scraping pout impurities in the brain and mind.

Thus, this herb stimulates your voice, the power of your speech, self-expression and your intelligence, respiratory system + more. This is why it is a key ingredient in our Nasika nose drops oil.

7. Sip Hot Water

This simple yet incredibly powerful method not only melts toxins and flushes them out and cleanses your lymphatic system, but dilates the channels and vessels in your throat for greater clarity and ease in projecting your voice.

On that note, avoid caffeinated drinks and alcohol that will dry out your throat.

Strictly avoid cold food and drinks as they will put out your digestive fire, contract and constrict your throat channels.

Like playing sport, you want to be nice and warmed up before going up ‘to play.’

Transition to sipping on some hot liquorice tea instead of ice cold “schooners” before you get up on stage, and you’ll be feeling (and singing) goooood.

Note of Caution

Cold Water Thermogenesis should be enjoyed and have some feelings of comfort.

There are risks of cold shock (it is rare), and your cardiac risks should be low.

It is important to ease gradually and gently into cold water immersion, do not push yourself. If you perform abhyanga before, and immerse in beautiful fluoride free nature it will be easier.

Skin colour of pink to cherry red is fine, but if it is white it is excessive. Shivering is not a good sign.

Below are a few considerations for those on the journey to helping heal cancer.

1. Slow Down, Cancer Is Mostly Not An Emergency
